Sometimes, We Need to See the Bigger Picture

Details, details, details.

Don’t Get Bogged Down

As we’re going through our day, it’s easy to get bogged down in details. Details are important. One little detail that’s off could mean major problems for a website or a design. Let’s say you are designing a golf tee package and accidentally misspell Europe as “Euzrope”, forget to spell-check and then it gets printed. Hey, it could happen. This could mean major problems for you and your brand. If Euzrope is a prominent piece of your branding, your customers may begin to think that you don’t know how to spell. Or, at the very least, you are misrepresenting your brand, which is not conducive to establishing brand authority. So, the first point here is details are crucial. They’re important, yes, but let’s not get bogged down in them so much that we miss the bigger picture, especially as we talk about brands.

Brands Are Beasts

Brands are all encompassing beasts. Websites, logos, packaging, advertisements…they are all contained within the large umbrella that is a brand. When we think about design, and in particular, designing for a brand, it’s important that we not look at just one aspect of that brand, but several. We need to compare and contrast various aspects. We need to ensure that we see the whole picture, so that we can establish a theme that works on multiple fronts. When we focus too much on one aspect, we may lose sight of the big stuff. Keep your eyes on the prize.
